Weekdays Outpace Weekends For Online Video Viewing, According To Nielsen Online
Nielsen Online, a service of The Nielsen Company, today announced that 65 percent of online video viewers stream content between 9am – 5pm Monday through Friday, compared to 51 percent of online video viewers who log on between 6am – 8pm on weekends (see Table 1). With a 96 percent broadband penetration among at work Web visitors in October and many employees spending nearly eight hours a day at their computers, workdays are prime time for online video viewing.

Once considered a lower-price, lower-quality substitute for name brands, private label products, or store brands, are viewed positively by the majority of U.S. consumers, according to a new survey by The Nielsen Company. Nearly three-quarters (72 percent) of consumers believe store brands are good alternatives to name brands and 62 percent of consumers report they consider store brands to be as good as name brands, up three points since 2005.

The Nielsen Company and WPP have today jointly announced that they have signed a definitive agreement to swap certain assets. Nielsen will now own 100% of AGBNielsen Media Research, a leading international television audience media measurement business, by acquiring the 50% currently held by WPP.

TV Viewing And Internet Use Are Complementary, Nielsen Reports
The Nielsen Company’s new TV/Internet Convergence Panel, which electronically measures both television and Internet usage in the same homes, has found that television viewing and online video streaming are complementary activities. According to the convergence panel, the heaviest users of the Internet are also among the heaviest viewers of television: the top fifth of Internet users spend more than 250 minutes per day watching television, compared to 220 minutes of television viewing by people who do not use the Internet at all. Nielsen found that the reverse is true as well – the lowest consumers of television have the lowest usage levels for the Internet.

Playback from Digital Video Recorders (DVRs) is increasing the amount of time people spend watching television, according to new data from The Nielsen Company.
